Tea Time With DIY Mugs

Did you guys see my Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy mugs that I shared last week?

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy DIY mugs

I am not a coffee drinker. I just don’t like the taste of it. But tea, on the other hand, I adore it. I could drink it all day long. My favorite mug has been in my possession for 12 years now. It is an over-sized Winnie the Pooh and friends mug. Oh, lookie…I just Googled it and found one on Ebay. Maybe I should buy it, just in case mine ever breaks.

I have a ton of plain white mugs in a box in my craft room, because when I bought one to make the My Patronus is River Song mug, I decided to stock up since they were only $1 each.

My Patronus is River Song

A couple of days after DK Publishing sent me a review copy of the new Tea Book by Linda Gaylard, I was glancing through the all of the pretty mugs in the book, reading about the traditional tea ceremonies from Japan, Korean, and other countries. It hit me that all my white mugs were completely going to waste sitting in a box all alone, when they could nerdified and displayed next to our Keurig.

In addition to the Hitchhiker’s Guide mugs, I also made these…

A Sherlock mug, with one of my favorite Benedict Cumberbatch-Sherlock quotes on one side and Sherlock's wallpaper on the other side.

Because I'm Batman mug

A Batman mug for my son. I made this for him, because it is one of his favorite quotes. He often just knows things and whenever I ask him how in the world he knows something, he replies, “Because I’m Batman.”

Now this is probably one of those really obscure quotes (sort of song lyrics, really) that few people I know in real life know what it means. If you do, leave me a comment. If you don’t have a clue, I won’t scare you away by explaining. Let’s just say it comes from a very weird British tv show.

If you have a Silhouette Cameo cutting machine and a bunch of vinyl, you can make anything that your heart desires. As long as you can upload an image to trace and it is not overly complicated, the machine can cut it. Just look at the wallpaper design from the Sherlock mug above. The Silhouette Cameo had no problem cutting that out.

This is a screenshot of the Silhouette software. You can add images and text, and then use the trace feature to let the machine know what it needs to cut.

Siser Easyweed is my favorite vinyl, because the high quality of the vinyl makes removal super easy.

Do you want to see photos from the new The Tea Book by DK Publishing? Of course you do! This book is one of those beauties that every tea lover must have in their kitchen.

The Wheel of Wellness, my favorite spread in the entire book. The outer ring shows ailments such as headaches, stomachaches, arthritis, and sleep issues. The inner part of the wheel shows the various teas that can help you.

Everybody know that tea has tremendous health benefits and this book is loaded with the science and history behind those benefits.

Never knew all about the anatomy of a tea plant until I read this book!

My mother-in-law’s island, Jeju. This really surprised us! My husband and I had no idea Jeju had so many tea farms.

How to make your own tea recipes! I’m working up the courage to try bubble tea.
