Personally, I love party planning. (Party hosting, on the other hand…not so much. But that’s a topic for another day.) Even if I have no parties to plan in the near future, I am always partially planning one in my mind. I have dozens of Pinterest boards for various party themes that I know I’ll never actually get to. I just like collecting the ideas. I know I am not alone in that. I am positive that moms in general love perusing Pinterest for birthday party ideas, even if they secretly hate planning or hosting parties.

When I was given the chance to do this sponsored post on behalf of American Greetings, I was looking over the kid-themed greeting cards at Meijer, wondering what theme I should choose for a kid’s birthday party. My eyes were going back and forth between the pirate themed cards and the superhero cards. Superheroes? Or pirates? Which would be more fun? Almost all kids love superheroes, but treasure hunts are SO much fun and easy to plan.

So, let’s combine them! A superhero treasure hunt!  This treasure hunt can be created for a party, but I also think it would be perfect for just the birthday kid, on the morning of their special day.

The entire clue reads: Next clue is under the kitchen table.

Each tiny piece of paper needs to be taped onto the back of a minifigure section. When you are done taping, take all the minifigures apart and place them into a bag. Staple the clue #1 bag topper onto the bag.

The instructions ask you to follow the superhero names and find your way out the maze. The 4th name you find is an important clue to your next location.

The 4th name is Iron Man, so the next clue’s location is your iron.

I found these adorable tape sheets and knew immediately that the cardboard holders would come in handy for something. I was right! One is the perfect size for the puzzle pieces.

These are simple riddles, which should be easy for most kids to figure out. If not, don’t worry, just give them the answer and move on. The answers are included in the printable. If you find super cool greeting cards like mine, which come with Batman masks and 3D Spiderman glasses, your child will probably get distracted and stop caring about the clues!

CLUE #9

You will need:

For this clue, your child will need to hold the piece of paper up to the mirror to read the backwards text. It tells them to go sit on the couch with their eyes closed to await a very special present.

The selection of goodies at Meijers, greeting cards, gift bags, and tissue paper. Important party goods items for a great party!

Now for the wrap-up.

What you’ll need:

  • 6 superhero minifigures (check out the inexpensive LEGO-compatible minifigures on Amazon)
  • tape
  • a glue stick
  • scissors
  • a blue marker or crayon – doesn’t matter how dark
  • a light colored highlighter, marker or crayon
  • a mirror
  • my printables
  • several American Greetings cards
  • several gift bags or envelopes or other creative containers
  • tissue paper, bows and other items to decorate your envelopes and bags.

Step-by-step

  1. Give your child the bag of minifigures, which is clue #1. The clue on the back of the minifigures sends him or her to the kitchen table, where clue #2 (the printable of Thor’s hammers) should be waiting.
  2. Clue #2 – found under the kitchen table – is the printable of Thor’s hammers. This clue sends him (for simplicity I am just going to type him from now on) to the car, where clue #3 (the maze) should be waiting.
  3. Clue #3 – found in the car – is the maze. This sends him to the iron, where clue #4 (the puzzle) should be waiting.
  4. Clue #4 – found near the iron – is the puzzle. This sends him to his pillow, where clue #5 (a riddle) should be waiting.
  5. Clue #5 – found under his pillow – is a riddle with the answer “a book”. This sends him to a superhero themed book that you have placed in a prominent location. Inside the book, clue #6 (another riddle) should be waiting.
  6. Clue #6 – found inside the book – is a riddle with the answer “a phone”. Near your home phone or cell phone clue #7 (another riddle) should be waiting.
  7. Clue #7 – found near the phone – is a riddle with the answer “a bottle”. This sends him to a prominently placed bottle. Near the bottle, clue #8 (the last riddle) should be waiting.
  8. Clue #8 – found near the bottle – is a riddle with the answer “a newspaper”. Place the last clue, #9, inside the newspaper. This will lead him to a mirror.
  9. Clue #9 – found inside the newspaper – needs to be taken to a mirror.
  10. After figuring out clue #9, have your child sit on the couch with his eyes closed for the big present.

Do you have a birthday party coming up soon? What theme have your kids chosen? I’d love to hear your plans!
